Vos vacances dans le sud
Holguin
Holguín is one of the richest regions of Cuban nature and has been developing as one of the most important tourist destinations on the island. High mountain ranges, fertile plains and sandy beaches are abundant in this province full of beauty. It was in this region of Cuba (Bariay) where Christopher Columbus landed and expressed his admiration for the view before him.
The beaches of Holguin are among the most picturesque ones in the Caribbean. Turquoise colored, warm and peaceful waters protected by the coral reefs. They are surrounded by a thick green vegetation that makes a beautiful contrast with the golden white color of the sand and the clear blue of the sea water.
You can get flights to Holguin via the "Frank Pais" International Airport. You can get also there using the Central Road from other regions of the country and from the sea at the Puerto de Vita International Marina.
The people of Holguin, like all Cubans, love good music. Among the important musicians that emerged from this province are Faustino Oramas, El Guayabero and the famous pianist Frank Fernández. The Son is interpreted in a very peculiar way in this province. There is also the peasant decimas (peasant musical stories), a tradition brought by natives of the Canary Islands that arrived to this region in different waves, that has its most important manifestation during the Romerias in May or at the Ibero-American Culture Party. The Poor Cinema Festival has been recently established in Gibara.
There are many places that have a great historical, cultural, anthropologic, tourist and landscape interest in the region. All of them gave such an impression in Christopher Columbus that at his arrival to Cuban shores he said "…this is the most beautiful land human eyes have ever seen".
The beaches at Holguin have certain characteristics that made them unique in the whole island and different to the rest of them. At the same time Holguin is a very rich cultural center in history and traditions.
At this destination you can enjoy the beach with sea related activities like diving and swimming with dolphins and also visit the capital of the province and Gibara, know aspects of the native origin in Banes, get deep in some of its old forests and discover the charms of the Naranjo Bay parks, the natural exhuberance of Cayo Saetia or practice trekking in Pinares de Mayari.
